Mission Earth
This
summer I saw a video of a turtle that had a straw in its nose. The people in
the video were helping by pulling the straw out, but it wasn’t easy. Not only was
the turtle pulling away but was also shutting it’s eyes, sneezing, breathing
heavily, hissing and bleeding. It was not fun to watch this video, watching it
reminded me of Mission Blue. Mission Blue is a documentary of Dr.
Sylvia Earle’s campaign to save the oceans. This documentary has opened up my
eyes even more to the extensive damage that the environment is going through.
By doing
one thing, we cause another. For example pollution causes infertile land,
global warming, human health and environment degradation. In a food chain,
taking one thing away can affect everything from the bottom to the top. What I
am saying is that we take many things from earth, and while we are making an
effort to restore the beauty step by step, we could do a lot better if more
people were informed and interested of the negative effects we are causing.
History
is taught so that we learn
from mistakes, so we won’t do them again and progress. Many things have
occurred environmentally; for example, there is 20,000 oil spills reported each
year, and no matter how much they say they are controlling it, they still
affect everything in the ocean life. I know that oil spills are a great
disaster, so why we are still allowing them to happen and go on as if oil
spills does not affect anything when they do. There are many things we need to
do. The change can start with one person, a small change in their individual
life can make a big difference. It all takes determination.
I believe that that we can change the situation
that our environment is in. I believe we can raise the numbers of endangered
animals, so that zoos will not be the only place we have to see them. I believe
we can lower the contamination/pollution in our daily lives. I believe we can
save our environment, save what it provides to us, preserve its beauty, and
make it better. We can do this, but we have to work together, not as a state,
nation or country, but as a world, to make some changes in our lives. If we
work together, we can save the environment. We can save Earth.
I like how you think we can make a change in our community. By gathering up to help our environment out.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your essay. Yes lets save the environment and Earth.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your essay. Its sad what they are doing. I also believe we can change the world and help out a little better.
ReplyDeletei like how your involved in a great cause.
ReplyDeleteI like how you think we can change the situation in our envrionment and we can learn from our mistakes, so we won't do them again and progress. Also, I like the part that you saw a video of a turtle that had a straw on its nose because I saw that video too and I felt the same things as you. You make a good point on detail and evidence; however, you should put on your personal experience that go out on the community that made you feel aware and want a change to our environment.
